Guangdong Foshan-Dongguan Intercity Railway Fully Completed

Published:2020-06-24

A few days ago, as a TBM holing through the Changlong Tunnel in the open cut section from Panyu Avenue Station to the tunnel exit, all tunnels on Foshan-Dongguan Intercity Railway in Guangdong were completed. So far, the entire Foshan-Dongguan Intercity Railway was completed.

The tunnel works on Foshan-Dongguan Intercity Railway in Guangdong mainly include Changlong Tunnel and Shiziyang Tunnel. Among them, Shiziyang Tunnel, with a total length of 6,476 m, is the world's largest submerged railway tunnel by the shield tunneling method. As the most difficult and risky works on the whole railway, it was successfully holed through on December 17, 2019.

Changlong Tunnel is 11.03 km totally. The geological conditions along the tunnel route are as complex as a "geological museum". During the construction, for the first time in EPB shield construction in China, builders adopted the continuous belt conveyor mucking to transport muck, which has doubled the efficiency. They also innovatively injected additives into the cutter surface, earth chamber or screw conveyor through the special device equipped on the TBM to improve mucking. Relying on this improvement, they have set a new national shield construction record of 15 round for 24 m per day in composite strata of the Pearl River Delta and a national record of longest tunneling distance (4,675 m) for a single-shield large-diameter TBM.

The 36.7 km long Foshan-Dongguan Intercity Railway in Guangdong starts from Guangzhou South Station in the west and ends at Dongguan Wanghong Station in the east, with 7 stations and a design speed of 200 km/h.
