China-Laos Railway (Boten-Vientiane) starts from the Mohan-Boten port on the China-Laos border in the north and passes through the provinces of Luang Namtha, Oudomxai, Luang Prabang and Vientiane in Laos to reach the capital Vientiane City. The total length of the line is 414 kilometers, with a design speed of 160 km/h. The whole line commenced in December 2016 is scheduled to be completed and put into operation in December 2021. After the line opens to traffic, it will link up with China's railway network through Yuxi-Mohan Railway under construction in China to the north and connect with the railways of Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore and other countries to the south.
On the morning of November 16 and the morning of November 17, Lu Dongfu visited Thongloun Sisoulith, Lao Prime Minister, and Bounthong Chitmany, President of the Party Central Inspection Committee and Deputy Prime Minister, respectively. Thongloun Sisoulith and Bounthong Chitmany welcomed Lu Dongfu's delegation and fully affirmed the progress made in the construction of China-Laos Railway. The two leaders pointed out that the two countries are linked by mountains and rivers and have deep traditional friendship. China-Laos Railway is a huge landmark project for the cooperation between the two countries promoted by General Secretary Xi Jinping and General Secretary Bounnhang Vorachit. The implementation of the project has strongly promoted the ever-closer cooperation between the LPRP and the CPC, and the governments and peoples of Laos and China, and has actively promoted the cooperation and development of the railway industry between the two countries. They expressed their heartfelt thanks to the CPC and the Chinese government for their great attention and support to the project, fully affirmed the efforts and contributions made by CHINA RAILWAY and the Chinese participants for the implementation of the project, expressed their great satisfaction with the progress and achievements made in the project construction, and expressed that they would continue to fully support the project construction, actively coordinate and solve the difficulties and problems in the project construction, and ensure the scheduled completion and opening of the project by the end of 2021.
