For the First Time, Railways in Xinjiang Transported 200 Million Tons of Goods in One Year

Published:2023-01-01

By December 23, 2022, the China Railway Urumqi Group Co., Ltd. transported 201.7 million tons of goods, completing the annual target eight days ahead of schedule. It is the first time for Xinjiang railways to have transported over 200 million tons of goods in a single year.

As the railway network in Xinjiang continues to improve, cargo transport capacity on its railways has risen steadily. In 2018, Xinjiang railways transported more than 100 million tons of goods in a year for the first time. Afterward, the amount transported continued to increase, eventually exceeding 200 million tons in 2022; doubling 2018’s transport in merely four years. This new result is attributed to the booming market demand, the well-established railway network, and the efforts of railway operators to maximize the railway’s potential.
