China-Thailand Railway Cooperation Project

  As an important part of Trans-Asian corridor, the China-Thailand Railway is a flagship project for China and Thailand to implement the "Belt and Road Initiative" (BRI) and capacity cooperation. The line totals 845 kilometers, with the first phase project from Bangkok to Kele extending 253.2 kilometers. The EPC mode is adopted for the project in which Thai side is responsible for the under-track works, while the Chinese side is responsible for the track, “four-power” system (including electricity, communication, signaling and OCS)  and vehicles (EMU). The Chinese side is led by China Railway International Co., Ltd., affiliated to CHINA RAILWAY.

  On September 4, 2017, during the BRICS summit in Xiamen, witnessed by Chinese president Xi Jinping and Thai Prime Minister Prayut, China Railway International Co., Ltd. and Railway Design Group Co., Ltd. affiliated to CHINA RAILWAY signed the civil engineering design contract and consultation and supervision contract for the first phase (Bangkok-Kele section) with State Railway of Thailand. The construction of the first phase was officially started on December 21, 2017 .

  The China-Thailand railway will effectively improve infrastructure construction and connectivity between Thailand and the region, accelerate the construction of the Trans-Asian Railway, promote sustainable development of Thailand's economy, and boost prosperous development of the region and people's livelihood.
